Dirty Deeds by Karina Halle

Welcome back to the world of deceit, death, action packed bullets a blazing along with some hot fucks.

In the next installment of Dirty Angels series, we meet again Derek Conway not to be confused with Conway Twitty who could carry a tune with his guitar, this Conway carries his tune with his gun as he is an ex-military now assassin. He blindly takes a job to kill a woman and this woman is none other than Alana Bernal, sister to Javier Bernal(bad ass extraordinaire who by the way we see again). What becomes a job to kill becomes a job to protect. Unknown variables come into play that brings Derek and Alana together on another level. Their attraction is instant and the need to stay alive is put to the limit. Derek and Alana both have demons. Their past is what brings them to the present and hopefully to the future.

In the world of the cartels, someone and everyone is trying to get to the top. People are put in situations for their climb to ascend. The deceit in this story took me by surprise. I'm highly anticipating how Dirty Promises will go. As always, the writing of Karina is refreshing and I love the way she uses simple words to make an impact with her stories.

All in all...read the book.

Genevieve "Genna" Galante knows a thing or two about causing trouble. After all, it's engrained in her DNA. As the only daughter of Primo Galante, notorious boss of the Galante crime family, her life is dictated by a certain set of rules… rules Genna was never very good at following.

The story of star-crossed lovers caught in the middle of the biggest rivalry New York has ever seen, determined to make it… if only they can survive their parents' feud.

Teaser:
"A Roman Coke," Genna mused. "What's that?"
"It's rum and Coke. We just call it a Roman Coke around here."
"Because you're Italian?"
"And because when you get drunk enough, it all just slurs together anyway."
"Ah." Genna picked hers up, motioning toward him with it. "So what are we drinking to?"
"Today."
"Today?"
He nodded. "Right now, this moment. Let's drink to it."
Smiling, she clinked her glass with his. "Today, then."
They threw them back at the same time. The liquor hit Genna's taste buds and she grimaced, the vicious burn seeping down her throat and settling deep in her chest. "Ugh, is there even any Coke in this damn thing?"
Matty laughed, setting his empty glass down. "Just a splash."
"I couldn't tell."
"That's because I prefer it that way," he responded. "Strong and rough, enough to leave a lingering ache. I like it to hurt just a bit."
Oh good God. Those words sent a chill down Genna's spine, one she couldn't hide, as Matty waved for the waitress. Eyes never leaving Genna, he ordered another round of drinks.
"Another?" she asked, picking up the water to take another sip, this one to soothe the sting in her chest. "You said one drink."
A sly smile curved his lips. "I like to keep them coming."
"Is that right?"
"Absolutely." Matty stood, leaning across the table, his lips near her ear. "Maybe you'll let me show you later."

Hero by Samantha Young

Hero is about how a choice, either bad or good, can connect people to their fate. First connection is made thru eye contact between the characters of Caine and Alexa. There's a spark and the attraction is mutual. Alexa knows how they're connected and when it's revealed how, Caine immediately closes off and brushes off Alexa. Second connection is when Alexa is looking for employment and Caine offers her one at his job as his personal secretary. She knows how he feels towards her yet she still wants that connection with him, feelings be damned. Third connection is thru their words. Some hurtful, some playful and some revelations they both discover. Fourth connection is thru the sex. I don't need to explain that. Alexa feels more while Caine feels less or so he thinks. And the last connection is about family and here is where it all starts and how Caine and Alexa become what they became.

I connected with the characters. I got what they were saying and doing but towards the end when a secret is known, I felt disconnected and didn't think it went well with the story but that's just my opinion. All in all Hero is an enjoyable slightly angsty read that can pull at the heart and one that I still recommend.
