Review ~ The Storm by Samantha Towle

Blurb
STORM (noun)—a turbulent disturbance; a disruption or dispute.

Jake Wethers’s life is perfect. He’s married to the woman he’s always loved, and they have three beautiful children. The Mighty Storm is still going strong, and his record label is thriving.

Jake has everything—a life he thought he would never have and one that he didn’t think he deserved.

Not so long ago, Jake’s life wasn’t perfect. The unexpected and untimely death of his best friend, Jonny Creed, sent an already out-of-control Jake spiraling down further.

Drug addiction. Alcohol. Women.

Jake was in the fast lane to following Jonny to the grave until Tru Bennett walked back into his life and changed everything.

But now, the past that Jake left behind has come back to find him. And what the past brings with it is going to be one of the biggest challenges he has ever faced.

Review

For a novella, The Storm packed a huge punch! The emotions that Jake and his POV evoked from me brought happy and sad tears.  The Storm is set in the future. Everything is going well for Jake and Tru. They're happily married with three children and each are still successful in their own right. When a phone call comes upon Jake, everything will change. Secrets will come out and all lives will be affected. It's a secret that Jake will have to deal with but with Tru always at his side, Jake, family and friends get a surprise of a lifetime.

That bonus chapter. That fucking bonus fucking chapter did me fucking in. I didn't know what it was about and then when I saw it, I knew it was going to tug at my heart strings. I couldn't even with Ms. Towle with that bonus chapter. After I finished reading The Storm, it brought back moments when I first fell in love with Ms. Towle's writing. I love that she revisited Jake and his snake(I wish there was an amusement park about his snake) and I really(to the millionth power) that she continues with this series. Not so much Jake and The Mighty Storm but with new characters.

Review ~ The Baby by Abigail Barnette

Synopsis

When life unravels, someone has to wind it up again. Sophie Scaife has found herself in such a position one time too many. She should be celebrating a new year and bountiful success; instead, she’s trying desperately to hold her world together as it tears apart.

For Sophie and her husband, billionaire Neil Elwood, coupling the domesticity of marriage and their steamy games of Dominance and submission comes naturally. Rekindling their sinfully kinky affair with an old flame makes their passion burn hotter than ever, and Neil’s lust for Sophie is matched only by his drive in undertaking an ambitious new philanthropic venture.

But in the wake of Neil’s greatest triumph comes a staggering life change neither of them are prepared for. Overnight, Sophie finds herself in a new reality, wholly unlike the life she’d planned. As emotions run high, Sophie struggles to reconcile the husband she cherishes with a man she no longer knows; a man she loves too much to let go without a fight...

Content warning: contains mention of suicide and suicidal ideation, as well as recovery.

REVIEW

MAAAAAAAAAAANNNN....The first chapter is fucking hot. I bow down to Neil and Sophie's sex life. Their Dom/Sub relationship IS THE BEST I've read. *Though I draw the line on slapping*

This book is intense. I honestly didn't see what came and it broke my heart. I can't delve much cause it will give it away but the emotions The Baby evoke from you will hurt(some in good ways but mostly the sadness). If you've followed Neil and Sophie, you know they have been through a lot in their relationship but nothing holds a candle to before than what they go through on this heartbreaking journey. I really want to say more but I just can't. Just be prepared people. Be prepared.

*side note* Easily, this series is in my top five.

“Marry me.”
“What?” I stared back at him, unblinking.
He moved closer, taking my face in his hands. “I love you, Evie. I look into the future, and the only thing I see clearly is you. Marry me.”
What’s an eighteen-year-old girl who was madly in love with her nineteen-year-old boyfriend say?
Of course, I said yes.
Twenty-four hours later, I married Adam Gunner at a Vegas chapel to the sounds of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Not the best omen. I get that now.
Then, exactly one week later, I left him. I walked out, leaving behind my wedding ring, annulment papers, and my heart, and he never knew why.
I haven’t seen him since. Not in ten long years.
Now, he’s here, standing before me. Looking at me with nothing but hurt and hatred in his eyes, he wants answers.
Answers I can’t give.

Adam POV   Making my way through the hotel, I exchange pleasantries with the staff on duty. When I reach the coffee shop, I push open the door and step straight into the past. Evie. She’s standing behind the counter. Her face is turned slightly to the right, her attention on the TV mounted on the wall, and her hair is pulled back into a ponytail. But it’s her. I feel like a speeding train has hit me, and I’m pretty sure my heart has stopped beating. It’s really her. She’s here. “Evie?” I breathe out her name, like I’m taking my first real breath in a very long time. Her body stiffens at the sound of my voice. And I watch as her face turns my way. Those big whiskey-colored eyes that I fell in love with all those years ago meet mine, and my world stands still.   Evie POV   My eyes rake over him as I remember the Adam I knew ten years ago and compare him to the Adam I see before me. The long hair is gone, replaced with cropped locks. The unshaven scruff on his face is still very much there though. At least some things haven’t changed. “You cut your hair.” “It has been ten years.” “I know. I just...I remember a time when you said you’d never cut your hair.” A small smile touches my lips at the memory. “Yeah, and I remember when you promised to love me till death do us part. Shit changes.” My smile drops from my face. My cheeks sting like he’s just slapped me. I deserved that. Doesn’t stop it from hurting like a bitch though.

REVIEW

In this second chance romance, we have get past and present dual POV's from the characters Adam and Evie. Their relationship starts at the age of seventeen(Evie) and nineteen(Adam) when they meet on the beach of Malibu. Adam comes from Hollywood blood while Evie is just your average girl. The attraction is there not by only how they look but how they get each other. Adam comes from a loveless broken home while Evie comes from a home full of love though it's been broken by a tragedy. As their relationship blossoms, they know that they're it for each other. After an impromptu engagement and marriage, you would think that everything would go their way and live happily ever after but no. A person comes into play when another unfortunate occurrence happens and Evie takes the bait.

So this is where the past and future come into play. We see how things lead up and unfortunately dissolve. Adam never got over his first love. Commence his manwhoring ways to forget but he couldn't move on. Seeing Evie for the first time in ten years, Adam is wanting answers that Evie will not give until the fight leaves her and the secret comes out. Evie never got over Adam. She did what she thought was right. Through all this they rekindle their love or shall I say their sex. There's angry and sweet sex. It's emotional and intense. You root for them to open up so they can be where they were always meant to be, together. It's an adorable and emotional on first love and how it never goes away.

Blog Tour ~ Review ~ Reaper's Fall by Joanna Wylde

reaper's fall book tour.jpg

reaper's falll it's live.jpg
Reaper’s Fall is the newest standalone in the Reaper's MC Series.  Painter & Melanie's story is FINALLY here!

Available at the following retailers:

reaper's fall cover.jpg
Blurb
The New York Times bestselling author of Reaper’s Stand is back in her “uber-alpha rough world of MCs”* as one woman’s future is rocked by the man whose hardcore past could destroy her…

He never meant to hurt her.

Levi “Painter” Brooks was nothing before he joined the Reapers motorcycle club. The day he patched in, they became his brothers and his life. All they asked in return was a strong arm and unconditional loyalty—a loyalty that’s tested when he’s caught and sentenced to prison for a crime committed on their behalf.

Melanie Tucker may have had a rough start, but along the way she’s learned to fight for her future. She’s escaped from hell and started a new life, yet every night she dreams of a biker whose touch she can’t forget. It all started out so innocently—just a series of letters to a lonely man in prison. Friendly. Harmless. Safe.

Now Painter Brooks is coming home… and Melanie’s about to learn that there’s no room for innocence in the Reapers MC.

“You want to watch a movie or something?” she asked, nodding toward the TV. I had a decent one, too. Giant-ass flat-screen—homecoming present from the club.
“Sure,” I said, reaching for the remote. I didn’t have cable, but Ruger had set up some kind of box thingie for me so I could stream shit. “Whatcha in the mood for?”
“Not horror,” she said quickly, and I laughed again, remembering that first evening I’d spent with her at Pic’s house. She’d been so young and scared and vulnerable . . . I’d wanted to eat her up.
I still wanted to eat her.
“I can’t believe that you and Puck were supposed to be watching over me, and then you put in a slasher movie. That’s not how you make a girl feel safe.”
“No horror,” I agreed, although the thought of holding her for a couple hours while she was scared shitless appealed way more than it should. Watch it, asshole. “How about Star Wars?”
“You like Star Wars?”
I shrugged. “Everyone likes Star Wars. You know, I’m pretty damned sure Han Solo was a biker.”
She giggled. “You mean, like a space biker?”
“See, when you say it like that it sounds stupid.”
“I wanted to be Princess Leia. She’s badass,” she said, taking a deep drink of her beer. I watched as her lips wrapped around the neck, her throat swallowing. Oh fuck, that was good. She set the beer down on the coffee table with a clink, then let loose with the biggest burp I’d ever heard.
“Fucking hell,” I said, stunned. “I didn’t think girls could burp like that. Shit. Impressive, Mel. Very impressive.”
She grinned at me.
“We’re friends,” she told me. “And friends don’t need to worry about stuff like that. Let me guess—you’ve never had a female friend before?”
“Not really,” I admitted. “I’m think I’m a little scared.”
Scared and turned on, which was weird.
“You should be. I can do the whole alphabet.”
Damn. I kinda wanted to see that.

 Review

The time has come for us to finally get the story on Painter. We(or I)found Painter in the last Reapers books to be an asshole. Could he redeem himself after his actions from before? The answer yes, yes the asshole could.

The story is not only about Painter but also Melanie. We get to see how they came to be and how they came not to be. Melanie, as a teenager, crushed hard on Painter and this is about the time that Painter had a thing for Em(we know how that turned out). Painter never wanted to let anyone(women)get close, well besides physically. When Melanie finally gets in with Painter, it's not all smooth sailing but relationship is like that. We also knew that Painter was in jail and the letters Melanie sent to him was sweet, endearing and a little sad. Throughout the story, you can see and feel that Painter and Melanie fit and connected together.

A Reapers story is not a story without some type of MC drama. And we can't forget about Horse. Cause shit, he started this all, didn't he? While I enjoyed Reaper's Fall this wasn't one of my favorites. I found one character a little too SoA for my tastes but other than that, it's still a nice edition to the Horsemen MC.

Review ~ The Play by Karina Halle

Synopsis

Kayla Moore has always been comfortable with her feisty, maneating reputation. At least it was fine until she hit her thirties and saw her best friends Stephanie and Nicola settle down with Linden and Bram McGregor, leaving Kayla to be the odd one out. Tired of being the third wheel with nothing but one-night stands and dead-end dates in San Francisco, Kayla decides to take a vow of celibacy and put men on the backburner.

That is until she lays her eyes on Linden and Bram’s cousin, hot Scot Lachlan McGregor. Lachlan is her sexual fantasy come to life – tall, tatted, and built like a Mack truck. With a steely gaze and successful rugby career back in Edinburgh, he’s the kind of man that makes her want to throw her vow right out the window. But Lachlan’s quiet and intense demeanor makes him a hard man to get to know, let alone get close to.

It isn’t until the two of them are thrown together one long, unforgettable night that Kayla realizes there is so much more to this brooding macho man than what meets the eye. But even with sparks flying between the two, Lachlan can’t stay in America forever. Now, Kayla has to decide whether to uproot her whole life and chance it all on someone she barely knows or risk getting burned once again.

Sometimes love is a game that just needs to be played.

REVIEW

The Play is the story about Kayla Moore(who we've met in The Pact and The Offer) and Lachlan McGregor(who we briefly met in The Offer*everytime I say his name it comes out very Sean Connery*) on how they met, on how the spark was there waiting for the friction to ignite into a combustible relationship, on how they spoke words that made you FEEL, on how actions are sometimes louder than words, and on how they fell only to be built up higher.

Hope is a powerful and dangerous word. It can either bring your world to a stand still or make it spin faster than before. When Lachlan hopes, you want it to come to fruition. He's been broken down by hope and yet he stills hopes for the good. Kayla has many obstacles that bring happiness and sorrow to her life. How she deals with it shows that she's a strong character and her strength goes perfectly with Lachlan.

I love sex in my books. The dirtier, the better. With Lachlan and Kayla...SHEE-IT...their sex was on fleek. End of.

I feel like I'm on repeat when I say that Karina Halle knows how to tell a story. Each of her stories are not the same. There is no pattern. She follows no trope. She's but a few handful that can execute words into something bigger. She has a way with words...

My head is throbbing with a sickly ache, my mouth tastes putrid, sour, like I can taste my own heart.

The heat builds deeper, my nerves are a million champagne bottles about to burst.

Favorite lines/moments:

But your eyes are like storm clouds and sunshine, framed by wet ferns, I think dreamily. I am so fucking glad he can't see this bullshit inside my head.

"Come on," I say quietly. "The hay is fine." She purses her lips, thinking it over. I stand at the edge and unzip my cargo pants, bringing my dick out of them, already stiff as a board. Her eyes widen as I knew they would. My girl is a hungry little creature. "I'll be right up," she says.

"Go home," he whispers. "Do what you can. And I'll see you tomorrow." "And what if you don't." He smiles sadly. "Then at least I had hope."

High's intrigued at the change, but her betrayal cut him deep-and he doesn't want to get burned again. As High sinks into meting out vengeance for Millie's betrayal, he'll break all over again when he realizes just how Millie walked through fire for her man

REVIEW

There are two things that I love when it comes to my reading. Kristen Ashley and second chance romance stories. In the previous Chaos series, we got little glimpses of Logan "High" Judd. What I saw was that he had a quiet intensity to him. An enigma, you may say. He was an puzzle that us readers wanted to solve. In Walk Through Fire, all the puzzle pieces are put together: slowly, brutally, emotionally, lovingly and peacefully.

High met the love of his life early on in life. Millie Cross was a free fun loving spirited soul that caught the attention of High. Through flashbacks we see how they met and how their love grew. We see that they were perfect for each other. Millie unexpectedly breaks off with Logan and they both go through their own version of hell. High has his place in Chaos. He's recently divorced and a father to two girls. Millie is highly successful living a lonely single life. When the time comes for them to meet after many years, it's an emotionally painful reunion. High is still hurt on how everything went down and because of his pain, he lashes out along with the rest of Chaos. Millie has had enough and when she wants to put everything behind her, once and for all, Benito Valenzuela(you know, the bad dude) makes his play and this ultimately brings High and Millie together. As they learn about each other, you see that their love never died. Words are said. Love is to be made. The secret will come out. Paris is to be seen and High and Millie are were they belong, together.

Now. While I enjoyed the story, there were some things that was missing. During the flashbacks, we didn't get to see when Millie broke up with High. I wanted to read about his reaction. What did he say? How did he take it? Did he become a manwhore to erase Millie from his mind? I wanted that. No, I NEEDED that. I wanted that angst and it wasn't there. Another thing was the secret. It's what drove Millie to do what she did with High but I didn't buy it. It was a factor for their future but it wasn't a deal breaker. Lastly was Benito Valenzuela. He made his move and then poof, he was gone. I would love for in the future books, more interaction with him and Chaos. I want that suspense. All in all with Benito was very anti-climactic. I was left unsatisfied.

Cities will burn.
Heads will roll.
Because Javier will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.

REVIEW

Well shit.
Fuck.
Dayum.
Aye Dios Mio.
WTF.
Awwww.
Get him! Get him!

That is the jist of what you'll be thinking when reading Dirty Promises. This book will push at your comfort zone. It's not easy. It's brutally honest on how the cartels work and with how the characters you've come to love or hate portray themselves.

Way back when Karina introduced us to Javier Bernal, we knew how his mind worked. He's conniving, vindictive and dramatic but he's also a lover, a fighter and the king to his domain. In Dirty Promises, Javier is not in a good place. He's losing his family and a little of his sanity(whatever is left of it). He takes us to a dark dark place where we hope he finds the light to bring him out of his hell. Luisa, his wife, is his light. She tries to light the path to Javier back to her even if it takes a little of her soul. Luisa is one the bravest and courageous heroines I've come across. What she endures at the hands of evil men is not comprehensible because of the brutality of it. Javier and Luisa are living in their own secret hell but when they break free; it's to show the world they come out guns and knives wielded out to fuck you back.

Now. One character that I had hoped would get his story was Esteban. Him? I didn't see coming. Yes, I knew he wanted Javier's domain but fuckamotherfuckingfuckduck how did I not see what he was capable of. In the short story Dark Paradise, I thought I saw the good in him. Esteban was just a greedy bastard who got what was coming to him.

As always, I love the way Ms. Halle tells her stories. They're done flawlessly and creatively. You will not read the same story with any of her books. She has the knack for writing and it's highly entertaining.

Coach by Alexa Riley

SYNOPSIS

Retiring from the NFL was the right decision, and at thirty years old, I've done things most people could only dream of. After all I've accomplished, coaching high school football should be easy...but when you've got a distraction in the form of a nerdy girl with curves, things can get complicated.

She's a student, she's barely legal, and she's my best friend’s daughter.

I didn't know what desire was until Megan. I had no idea obsession could drive someone insane, until I saw her. I wasn't prepared for the fact that once I laid eyes on Megan my life would really begin.

I have to have her, no matter what the cost. I have to breed her and bind her to me so tightly she can't ever get away. She'll be mine, even if I have to take her.

Warning: this book is ridiculous, over the top, completely unbelievable, and pretty much just about breeding the heroine. If you're okay with that, welcome to my dirty, dirty book! Just remember, I warned you.

REVIEW

If you want over the top smut, then Coach is for you. The word breeding is used. In this type of story, breeding means to impregnate quickly. I had no problems with it whatsoever. If you don't like that type of read, then read something else.

The H is a thirty year old former football star who retires early due to injuries. He has taken a job as a coach for a local high school. He is staying with his best friend, who is forty-where they went to college together, and his wife. Their daughter is away and when she returns the H is immediately attracted and ensnared of her. The h, you guessed it, is a barely eighteen year old virgin. She is attracted to him and their love affair blooms. It's raunchy and naughty.

It works people. At least it worked for me.

Cole and Summer's relationship starts out slow. They're both attracted to each other but want nothing to do with each other. Cole and Summer are strong characters. They take no shit and give no shit. What you see is what you get from them both. When they realize that their romance is inevitable and when they finally come together(pun intended), it's real as in the form of it wasn't forced; it transcended perfectly.

It took me more than fifty percent to finally get into the story. The writing is good but I just couldn't get the feel or the flow of the storyline. I think this book is the case of "maybe it's me not you".

*And I won't spoil it but there is an old friend who makes an appearance in the story*

REVIEW

Lucky by J.M. Darhower

The year of 1998. The movie Shakespeare in Love, was released and there was a scene where Dame Judi Dench won the Academy Award. It was a tiny roll but it left a huge impression and just from this short story, Lucky by J.M. Darhower, it leaves another one. This is the prequel to Twenty to Life, a new mafia themed storyline. If I was to say anything about this story, I would give everything away but I will say this; though it's somewhat predictable the last line will have you saying, WOAH.
