The Ground Rules by Roya Carmen

This is about sex. Plain and simple.

Riiiiiiiiight.

The story follows a happily married couple(Gabe and Mirella) who meet another happily married couple(Weston and Bridget) at a restaurant. Strangers at first then their relationships becomes more when an, dare I say, indecent proposal is proposed. Basically, Weston and Bridget have an open marriage but it's kept secret. They both find Gabe and Mirella attractive and want to have seperate relations with them(no orgy here people though I wouldn't have been opposed to it). Gabe and Mirella discuss the proposal and what they find is that they're aroused by the idea or as Mirella says...
We're horny...it's that simple.

The title of the book is that. There are The Ground Rules for them to proceed with their arrangement. But you know how it goes...rules are meant to be broken. As the story is told only through Mirella's POV, we see how her connection to Weston becomes more. How emotions are played out and the consequences of them.

What drew me in the story is the realness of it. I got it. I got how Mirella could have started falling in love with Weston. It wasn't that she was neglected or unloved by Gabe. Their married life wasn't bad. It was great actually before they came into the "wife swapping". It's just that her relationship with Weston was different. The sex scenes with Mirella and Gabe were hot but also with Weston. We just got more of her and Weston and you see the connection with Weston more than with Gabe. Makes sense? Is there a wrong or right with Weston and Mirella and their feelings to each other? For me, I say no. What she was feeling for him gave me heart palpitations, I guess cause it was all new. Just different. What's happening with Gabe and Bridget and is there any feelings there? I don't know and I want to know.

I liked the way the story left off. It was completed in my opinion. I see there will be a book two and have no idea how the author will take the story in any direction but mos def I'll be reading it.

Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley

Excerpt from Own the Wind...

Joker was tall, built, not bulky but also not lean, just muscled in a powerful way. He held his body and moved like he knew exactly what his frame was capable of and what it was capable of was a lot. He had a thick head of black hair with more than a small amount of wave to it. He wore it long, hanging in his face and down to his shoulders. He also had a full beard that, unlike most of the brothers who sported facial hair, he kept trimmed. The beard made him appear older than his years. The tan he had made him look weathered and again older than he was. But it was his steel-gray eyes that told the tale. That steel was like a shield, holding everyone back from the mysteries that lay within. This was kind of a weird coincidence, since his name was Carson Steele. And I didn't know him, but I knew from those eyes there was no doubt there were mysteries that lay within.

When I first read that description of Joker, I laid claim. When I read that description again(cause hello, it's a Kristen Ashley book), I needed his story in my life. It took two long years to finally find out who Carson "Joker" Steele is and how he came into Chaos MC. The prologue of Ride Steady deals with Joker when he was a teenager. His home life isn't the best and he's wanting to break free from it. As he does, he knows that he'll leave behind people who matter most to him. People that were there for Carson, knowingly or unknowingly, who gave him something that his home life couldn't or wouldn't. One of these people is Carissa Teodoro, his high school crush. Though they hardly interacted in school, with his good bye at a heartbreaking scene, you felt what could have been with a short conversation and a kiss on the cheek.

As years go by, Joker and Carissa meet up again though one doesn't know who the other is. Change has come in many forms in their lives. Joker has joined Chaos and is doing what he loves in the shop. Carissa is a single mother making ends meet as best as she can. Even as one tries to pushes the other away, when the times comes, their relationship comes easy though there are some obstacles that come or try to get in their happiness. Joker and Carissa's words spoken to each other are honest. There are no games played. They say what they mean and do as they say. Having had feelings for each other for so long, they just click perfectly. Family comes not only by blood but by being there when no one else has. We get to meet Joker's new family which in time becomes Carissa's. There's a message there, folks. Savor it.

Ride Steady is also about Chaos and the threat that is making them take more notice of the dangerous situation that's coming. With this, we get a whole smorgasbord of old friends that make appearances. If you're anything like me, when I see a name, I start smiling huge.

As with all KA's prologues, though this was short, it got to the point, and it doesn't disappoint. As Joker and Cassie live out their wonderful world, you'll take something out of Ride Steady. What that is to you, is for you to find out. As for me, well that's my secret not to share.

Favorite lines:

"Steady, Butterfly."

"I think I might be falling in love with you,"...
"Then quit thinkin', Carrie, because I know I'm fallin' for you."...
"I'm gonna cry."...
"Then for fuck's sake, get over here so you can be in my arms while you do it."

"Who would have thought my Carson Steele would catch butterflies."

About Annabel Fanning

I'm a British-born, Australian-based author. I've previously published two novels for teens (in '09 and '12) and have recently completed my first piece of erotic writing.

At the beginning of 2014 (after having spent years writing other genres - historical, metaphysical, children's, romance) I decided I wanted to write about S.E.X.

I discovered very quickly that I couldn't JUST write about sex, I wanted (I needed) it to have context, depth, and meaning. So, I started writing, and writing, and writing... I had intended to produce a short story but in less than 3 months I surpassed the 100,000 words mark and I wasn't even half-way finished! Besides, I was having SO much fun! :D

That was in May this year. Then I decided to turn SHE into parts 1 & 2 and I took a break from the writing to focus on publishing the first part.

Through FB networking I met some wonderful women who read my novel and offered suggestions and were all very positive about the strength of the story. Together we edited it, and I designed and created the cover and the internal layout. And on October 17th 2014 I pressed the "launch" button and voila! I'm part of the Kindle and Amazon community :)

Cover Reveal ~ Shrinking Violet by Jessica Prince

Synopsis:

Forgiveness.
From the time we’re old enough to understand the word, we’re taught to forgive those who wrong us, so what do you do when the one person you can’t forgive is yourself?
For Cassidy Ashworth, it’s a question that haunts her. Forgiveness has become a foreign concept. Self-loathing is something she’s much more familiar with. Convinced that she doesn’t deserve happiness, Cassidy is determined to spend every day trying to make up for the wrong she’s done. But no amount of repenting for the past will ever convince her that she’s worthy of a future with Carson Langford.
Raised in the foster system, Carson has always been a throwaway kid. He knows firsthand just how cruel life can be, how easy it is for people to prey on the weak, and there’s nothing Carson detests more than a bully. So focused on his self-imposed role of protector, he never counted on the beautiful blonde with the haunted eyes to stumble into his life and shake up his world.
Despite her reluctance, Carson is determined to have Cassidy in his life, but once the truth of her past comes to light, the question is… will he still want to keep her?

RAFFLECOPTER LINK:
The giveaway is for a $25 amazon gift card + signed paperback of 53 Letters For My Lover (open to US, UK and Canada)

SYNOPSIS:

This is not your typical love story.
It’s not so black and white. Lines are crossed.
Walls are smashed. Good becomes bad.
Bad becomes very, very good.

Shayda Hijazi—the perfect wife, the perfect mother, the perfect daughter. For thirty-three years, she has played by the rules, swallowing secrets, burying dreams and doing whatever it takes to anchor her family. Shayda Hijazi is about to come face to face with the one thing that can rip it all apart, the one thing her heart has always been denied: Love.

Troy Heathgate—untamed, exhilarating, dangerous—a man who does exactly as he pleases. Life bends to his will. Until he comes across the one thing he would give it all up for, but can never have.

Born on the same day in opposite corners of the world, their lives collide. And nothing is ever the same again.

Spanning three decades, 53 Letters for My Lover is a sensual, emotional ride to the heart of an epic, forbidden love that defies it all—an intimate exploration of love, loyalty, passion, betrayal, and the human journey for hope, happiness and redemption.

1) Fun Facts about 53 Letters:
  • The original novel had a different ending, and was written a collection of letters that Shayda leaves behind for Troy.
  • The emails in the epilogue are real.
  • The book was released on the same day as Troy and Shayda's birthday. This year they turn 53! Happy Birthday, SC + BB!
  • 53 Letters For My Lover was inspired by this music video:

2) "He Said/She Said" with Shayda and Troy:

Shayda's quotes from 53 Letters For My Lover , and Troy's quotes from the companion short story, From His Lips.

The first time they meet:

Shayda:
Dusty sneakers, grey sweatpants…and then—the most startling pair of blue eyes. They reminded me of the cut outs I had saved in my wish book, of the places I wanted to visit. Blue like the water that surrounds the islands in the South Pacific. I felt like I had been picked off the pavement and plopped smack dab in the middle of it. I floated there for a while, suspended in its endless horizons as it held me for long, still seconds.

Troy:
“Here you go.” I knelt beside her. That’s when I first saw her face.

At the time, I was completely clueless about just how significant that moment was, how it would derail both our lives, because at the time I was just an ordinary guy looking at an ordinary girl on a quiet, shaded street. That’s how a lot of things start, don’t they? Our most profound experiences, our greatest adventures. When we’re just looking. Because if we knew that we were really at the beginning of miracles and plagues, and slayings and resurrections, we might retreat. But not knowing, I kept looking. And so did she.

Except she didn’t just look at me, she looked into me. As if she saw a place there that she’d always wanted to go, and it stunned her that it actually existed.

The moment when everything changed:

Shayda:
For a moment, I fought against the disarming tenderness of a stranger, the shame of being caught in a moment of weakness. Then his arms circled my waist, pulling me away from the door, from whatever heartache he had witnessed in my reflection. The fight drained out of me. I turned into the shelter of his embrace, and he, not knowing, not asking, took me in.

Something changed in that instant. For me. For him. Like when the sun and moon align and day turns to night. They finally see each other’s faces and hang, transfixed, even as their eclipse throws everything else into darkness. For those fleeting moments, everything made sense—the pattern behind the random trajectory of life, the infinite order beneath chaos.

Troy:
For a while, she just stood there, like a deer that knows it’s been caught in the hunter’s cross hairs. Then she bolted.

I seized her before she could escape, pinning her against the glass, my hand over hers, so I could anchor her, keep her from getting swept away.

Hey. It’s okay.

She made a small, choking sound when I pulled her away from the sliding door. My arms went around her and her cheek found my chest. And just like that, something fell into place.

All of my wild, crazy exuberance fit perfectly in the quiet crevices of her dreams. It was as if all my life, I had been running towards this moment, this diamond sharp clarity of being and belonging, this strange, intriguing girl with her rose breath and her broken wings.

The point of no return:

Shayda:
“Three days.” I drop my chin to his chest. “I haven’t thought beyond that.”
“Three days, huh?”
I squeal as he puts one hand under my knees and picks me up.
“We better get going then. You, my dear, have a lot to make up for.” He grins and carries me out of his office.

Troy:
I had three days to get her to face the truth—that she loved me, that she wouldn’t be here if it hadn’t left a gaping hole in her heart, that the only reason she wouldn’t admit it was because she was scared, because it would destroy everything safe and familiar and predictable in her world.

I didn’t care anymore. She would go through hell, but I’d be there to catch her. All I had to do was crush her defenses, lead a seventy-two hour assault on her senses and walk away with her heart in my hand. She would have no choice but to follow.
